Free Will is Why

God intended for you and I to be living a lovely life, evident in his creation for Adam and Eve. After the fall of us, we were cursed. We no longer had fruit trees and ease of life that was once simply spoken into existence.

We were granted this thing called free will. The free will comes from God’s love for us. When we get carried away with our free will or someone else does wrong unto us and tragedy strikes or hurt overwhelms-naturally we ask God why-why’d you let that happen.

The thing is God wants great things for us. He is a loving God but he also gives us free will. We get to choose to do things our way or his way. And when we choose our way-and things don’t go as planned-that’s not God punishing you that’s God allowing you to live out your choice of free will.

God doesn’t just let bad things occur. God doesn’t allow someone to molest you. God doesn’t allow your husband to beat on you. God doesn’t allow a family to become destroyed. God doesn’t allow a stick up, shoot out, or drive by. The people who perform these horrible acts do so out of their free will, which God takes from none of us. Unfortunately, this also includes perpetrators and betrayers.

Some people are living their free will, with no regards to God’s words of wisdom therefore God loves you enough to let you do so. He patiently waits for you to realize his goodness and how gentle he is to pull you into his will.

God gave us forgiveness and through that came freedom-with that came free will.

So to be frank, it’s not “God why’d you let that happen?” It’s realizing we all have the gift of free will, and not all of us use it to the glory of God.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

Ephesians 5:15-20
