We all have that inner fight within ourselves. We struggle with something. It maybe tangible or intangible. Maybe your inner fight is greed and a worldly addiction-money, sex, alcohol. Mine is patience and anger (used to be alcohol). This covers all situations that patience and anger can be a response to within the situation, possibly my anger getting the best of me.
Something that has been becoming more real to me as I grow in my faith is that Satan does not what me to have control over these inner struggles. He waits-he preys for those moments where he can slide through the cracks of the situation that has the potential to anger me and boom…he now has power to tempt my anger to overcome me.
Whereas God, is there, much more powerful-extending the grace and patience I need to not get angry. Communicating has been a big one for me. I can be in a heated argument or a simple disagreement and I can feel my patience-it might have been gone before the disagreement even started-and the anger rising. And many times I am aware of the two options-anger or grace-and many times I let the anger get the best of me.
But Satan loves this. God wants to grow us and give us abundance and true love. Satan wants to kill, steal and destroy. He uses our weaknesses-our limitations and the things that tempt us to derail us. To get us away from God because that is the only way he is going to defeat us and he will use our strongholds or struggles to do so. When he was trying to make Job sin he let God know “I have been going back and forth across the earth, watching everything that is going on.” He is eyeing us. Looking for those cracks he can slip into and get us more in the darkness. The bible tells us that, “even Satan disguised himself as an angel of light” in 2 Corinthians. We have to be vigilant with our faith when presented with choices. Sometimes the dark choice is more fun, or easier-but it is temporary. A temporary buzz, temporary release of rage, a temporary satisfying of lust. These are all temporary and unfulfilling. Satan is fighting for you to be stuck in those temporary things and feelings. The choice of light is everlasting and leads you to the abundant light and prosperous plans that God promises in Jeremiah. He gives you peace, and joy, and forgiveness-and eternal life with a purpose for this life.
Whatever it is you are struggling with-it is okay. We are all there. I just encourage you to seek God-ask him to bestow his boundless grace on you so that these weaknesses don’t run your life, or leave you with a trail of regret. Don’t be fearful of Satan’s tactics, but be faithful to God and don’t let Satan slip through the cracks. Be vigilant. Protect that precious life you’re growing. And tell Satan to go to hell.
“Keep watch and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
“Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
